The gospel lesson for the 2nd Sunday after the Elevation of the Holy Cross is always dedicated to the first reading from the Gospel of St. Luke Chapter 5 verses 1-11.
Today we hear the Parable of the Tenants in the Vineyard, which according to the people of the lands of the Bible was actually referring to Israel. In the Christian understanding the vineyard refers to the Church.
The month of September in our lives is a very busy time, we are winding down our vacations and summer relaxed pace and are now going into high gear. School is starting, the weather is changing, students are returning to college and the pace of our lives are accelerating as Fall approaches.
This Sunday, the first Sunday of September 2021, speaks to us about the Parable of the Unforgiving Servant, which illustrates the importance of forgiving others. This parable provides an interesting contrast between the teachings of the Old and New Testament concerning forgiveness.
