In today’s Gospel from Matthew 6:22-33, “The eye is the lamp of the body”, Jesus exhorts us not to worry about what we eat or drink or what we should wear for what is important is where our hearts are. This is the main point from the gospel lesson for the 3rd Sunday after Pentecost.
We should direct our eyes towards good things then your eyes will see no evil. Jesus assures us that our daily work will be enough to sustain us. He cautions us when he said we should not worry about overwhelming anxiety, soul consuming distress, bad planning or anything of the like for they will consume us. Rather we need to turn over our lives to Jesus who will provide everything that is essential and necessary for us as one of His children.
This lesson points us in the right direction to live a fruitful and rewarding life as Jesus’s disciples, not letting anything obstruct our “eyes” for they are the lamp of the body which will lead us to the Kingdom of God.
