The sixth Sunday of Matthew recounts the story of the healing of the Paralytic whose friends brought him to Jesus on a bed. This same miracle is also recorded by the Evangelist Mark in even greater detail.

We know that Jesus was at home in Capernaum preaching God’s Word to the crowd. We know the story very well where four men arrive carrying a paralytic on a bed, soon realizing that they could not squeeze through the front door, they instead climbed down through the roof, by removing a section apart, and lowered the paralytic, bed and all, to the feet of Jesus.  We know that Jesus turned to the sick man on his bed, forgave him his sins and healed him.

The spiritual lesson taught to us in this gospel is two fold one of resourcefulness of faith and the results of faith. You see Jesus wants us to be resourceful in seeking Him and in doing His work. Orthodox Christians ought to show greater resourcefulness about the far more important things of God. The life of the local parish provides countless opportunities to do God’s work through worship administration, teaching, caring, visiting and serving.

Our Christian mission in this world is wide open, therefore, we cannot sit back and wait, for time is of the essence, we must be attentive to our responsibilities.
