On this the first Sunday of Great Lent, we celebrate the Sunday of the Triumph of Orthodoxy which has a historical basis but serves as an impressive reminder of the centrality of Christ in the Orthodox Church.

This Sunday is a Spiritual Feast during which we Orthodox Christians reaffirm our confession of faith in Christ and His saving work. It is a day when we lift up Christ in praise and glorification.

This Feastday at the beginning of Great Lent celebrates the restoration of icons as an important way of living and expressing the Christian faith.

One of the special observances of this Sunday is the Rite of Orthodoxy and the procession of Holy Icons followed by the Synodikon or Confession of Faith proclaiming that Orthodoxy is the Faith of the Apostles, the Faith of the Orthodox, the Faith that holds up the world!

Let us lift our voices in praise honoring Christ as God and Lord.
