On this Sunday we commemorate the call of Jesus to his disciples to take up their nets and follow Him in His mission. Jesus had a mission to accomplish and as a man could not do it alone. He needed helpers and thus went out there to find them.
God often chooses ordinary people to perform extraordinary tasks. God also calls people like you and I for a specific purpose or task in life. The one necessary attribute to answer this call is closeness to God and the willingness to place our lives in God’s hands through faith.
Today we also celebrate the Saints of America and the regional saints throughout the world. In our country we recall the memories of St. Herman, St Innocent, St. Peter the Aleut, St. Juvenaly the Hieromonk, St. Alexis Of Wilkes-Barre, St. Nicholas of South Canaan, St. Raphael of Brooklyn, St. Vasily of Old Forge and St.Olga of Kwethluk, the newest addition to the glorified saints of America.
This is indeed an important Sunday for it brings those who heeded the call of Jesus and followed Him throughout the ages even unto our own lifetime. Let us, therefore, rejoice on this day for all the blessings He has bestowed upon us.
