As you all can imagine it has indeed been a very hectic month of July and already it seems August will be equally busy. Soon we will begin preparing for our Annual Festival which will be held two weekends in a row, Saturday and Sunday November 5-6, 12-13, 2022. Yes indeed as a Church, St. Herman’s is moving forward with your help and dedication, but most of all your abiding faith in Our mission as followers of Jesus Christ.
In today’s gospel for the 7th Sunday of Matthew 9:27-34, which focuses on two blind men who approached Jesus asking to be healed of their affliction. It is extremely important that Jesus wanted to know about their faith seeking to know their personal response of faith. Through the action of God’s Grace and the power of their faith, the blind men received their sight. Faith brought light to their eyes.
God is light, and to those who have entered into union with Him, He imparts of His own brightness to the extent that they have been purified.
Genuine faith expresses itself through works. As St. Paul writes, “What matters is faith that works through love.” Jesus, we know from the Gospels, praises the doers rather then merely the hearers of His Words.
In interpreting the Parable of the Talents, St. John Chrysostom, writes that God has given us speech, hands, feet, strength of body and mind, and many other gifts, that we may use all these things both for our salvation and for the benefit of others.
True faith brings inner certainty in Christian life, “To have faith is to be sure of the things we hope for, to be certain of the things that we cannot see”. (Hebrews 11:1)
So as we persevere in our journey through life with faith, let us strive to utilize our many talents and attributes for the glory of God.
