Jesus raising a widow’s son, for it emphasizes that the Resurrection power of Jesus was already at work in His earthly ministry. This is Jesus’ first resurrection miracle. The Resurrection power of the living Christ touches each of our lives, renewing us from day to day and enabling us to grow in His likeness.
Many Christians who have not fully experienced the power of Jesus’ resurrection in their lives still fear death and are visibly anxious when death occurs within their families or among their friends. As Christians, our faith in the living Christ helps us deal with illness, dying and death.
St. Paul wrote, “The Risen Christ, who lives and is the same yesterday, today and forever”. Christ is the renewing center of our prayers, sacraments, ministries, theology and mission. The message of our faith is Christ is Risen, which for us, carries the same joy as it did when it was first announced by the angel at the empty tomb.
The resurrection power of the living Christ is there for us who confess Him as Lord and who live within His Church in union with Him, glorifying and worshipping His Holy Resurrection which sustains us and carries us through times of distress and death, knowing that as the Gospel says, “…whoever believes in me will live, even though he dies, and whoever lives and believes in me will never die”. (John 11:25-26). Let us recall the words in Phil. 3:10, “All I want is to know Christ and to experience the power of His Resurrection.”
