Today we hear the story of the healing of the Blind Beggar, Bartimaeus, whom Jesus met while coming to Jericho.

As we know from the Gospel, Bartimaeus had heard about Jesus and His work from others and believed in His Royal Kingship. As Jesus came by, Bartimaeus seized on the only opportunity he would probably have in his life to speak to Jesus in person. The people tried to stop him from approaching Jesus but he persisted and because of his faith and humble prayer he was healed and received new light both spiritual as well as physical healing.

It is said by the Fathers of the Church that we should come to Christ in prayer as the blind beggar and cry out to Him to also receive the new light day by day.
