In the Sermon on the Mount Jesus said to all: “Seek first God’s Kingdom and His righteousness” Matt 6:33. What did Christ mean by announcing the good news of the coming of the Kingdom?

God’s Kingdom is an eternal fact, as Creator and Sustainer of all things.  God is the King of Creation, ruling over all things. God’s Kingdom is His Holy presence everywhere, His omnipotent reign and power, His throne, majesty and glory in which He dwells forever.

God’s Kingdom is the disclosure of His will, a living and active King. The supreme disclosure of God’s will is Jesus and His teachings. God’s Will and His Kingdom are closely connected.

God’s Kingdom is the revelation of God’s grace and power.  Christ’s miracles are expressions of the powers of the Kingdom working through Him. The effectiveness of Christian preaching and teaching are due to divine power.

God’s Kingdom is a present and future reality.  The mystery of God’s Kingdom as it is revealed in our lives is both a present experience and a future expectation.

You see, the Kingdom of God is within you and among you.  We become citizens of the Kingdom when we believe in the Gospel and are baptized. Yet the fullness of the Kingdom is still to come.

So from the above points we can understand  the urgency of Christ’s call to believe, to repent which He proclaims in today’s Gospel for this Sunday.

The Kingdom is here!  The hour of salvation has arrived. We are entreated to wake up to the good news of God’s living presence. This is the essence of today’s gospel.
